Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy functions by freezing the water within skin cells. As freezing occurs, the water expands, creating a crystalline structure that fractures the frozen cell walls, leading to cellular necrosis, or cell death.

 

Conditions where it is recommended to not treat

  • Hepatitis, specifically B and C
  • Human T-Cell lymphotrophic virus 3 (HTLV3)
  • Compromised Auto-Immune System
  • Transmissible spongiform encephalopathy eg CJD vCJD

Contraindication:

Several drugs will affect the results of cryotherapy treatment.

 

  • Anticoagulants - Warfarin, Heparin, Coumarin, Apixaban
  • NSAIs - Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Brufen (ok in low doses i.e. daily aspirin for prevention)
  • Immunosuppressants - Prednisolone, Prediolone, Methylprednisolone, Medrol, Cyclosporin, Azothiaprine
  • Cyclooxygenase inhibitors - DF118 Voltarol
  • Chemotherapy (oral) - Methotrexate
  • Appetite suppressants - E.g. XLS Medical
  • Antihistamines - E.g. Cetirizine
